There are 38 National, Forest or Marine Parks in New Zealand. In
addition to them, regional parks and reserves offer various styles of
outdoors activities. Most have features that can make their discovery as
captivating as the better known parks. In most of them, the weary
tramper can stop overnight in huts built for hunters from the 1960’s,
when deer culling was necessary. Some other tracks have been cut during
the gold rush. Interesting relics of the time can still be seen on the
way. Track marking and maintenance might not always be to international
standards, experience and good navigational skills are indispensable in
many remote areas. |
