Nous sommes des rares privilégiés à avoir
visité cette vallée. C'est là où a survécu le takahe, que l'on avait
cru disparu jusqu'en 1956 lorsqu'il a été redécouvert par Orbell. Le
Department of Conservation emmène seulement trois groupe de 20 visiteurs
par an.
We belong to the few to have visited this remote valley. That is where
the takahe, thought to be extinct was rediscovered by Orbell in 1956. The
Department of Conservation take only 3 groups of 20 visitors there a year. |

We have not seen takahe this time but we heard them and the
ranger showed a nest with an egg that was unfortunately not viable. |
In addition to being the Home of the takahe, the limestone
area is a vast cave system, one of the largest in NZ. |
