and in the Waimakariri river.

and small hut just above Waimakariri falls. |

 Going over the col to Rolleston valley requires more navigational skills and
a longer day. Water fall, beautiful upper river, extensive flora in early summer.

From Carington Hut, Barker Hut is a good side
trip and the round trip over Harman Pass and Ariel Tarn is very exciting.
For the experienced parties it is the way to the Five Pass trip over to
the west coast. |
