Extends from the highest peaks of the Southern Alps to a wild
remote coastline, glaciers, scenic lakes and dense rainforest. Remains
of old gold mining towns along the coast. World
Heritage Area. Easy access to the Franz Josef and Fox
Glaciers, forest and coastal walks. Mountaineering, ski touring, hunting
and fishing. Guided tours of the glaciers, scenic drives and flights.
These two parks are rather a place for mountaineers and climbers.
Nevertheless, both sides of the highest part of the main divide offers
exhilarating scenery only a few hours walk on steep tracks.
